Abstract: Passive safety devices such as passenger airbags, driver side airbags, and seat belts can reduce head and chest injuries in frontal collisions, but their leg protection effect is limited. Therefore, there is an increasing demand and application for knee airbags. Based on this, the research team analyzed some key design points of the knee airbag of a passenger pickup truck, including the matching requirements of the knee airbag and peripheral parts, such as carpet and instrument panel. In order to ensure the smooth deployment of the knee airbag, it analyzed the common tear line forms of the knee airbag and the common design values of relevant parameters, as well as the layout requirements of the knee airbag. At the same time, the test standards, test conditions and the judgment basis of the test qualification during the static deployment test of the knee airbag are described, providing a reference for the design and development of the knee airbag in the future. The simulation results show that the knee airbag is an important part of the passive safety of the vehicle, which can protect the passengers in the vehicle from injury together with the passenger airbag and side airbag curtain in case of collision.
